nurse in the OR with me was named Lauren. While wheeling me into surgery she
laid a gentle hand on my shoulder and kept it there until I was under general
anesthesia. I don't know if she will ever understand how much that simple
gesture of human touch meant to me. This was my first major surgery, and I was
very nervous going into it. While she did not say much, her hand on my shoulder
was so meaningful and reassured me that everything was ok. I want Lauren to
